How to Find the Length of a YouTube Playlist

YouTube tells you how many videos are in a playlist, but not how long it takes to watch them all. This calculator adds up every video for you:

  1. Open the playlist on YouTube and copy its link from the address bar or the Share button. Playlist links contain list=.
  2. Paste the link into the box above and press Calculate.
  3. Read the total length, the average video length and the watch time at faster speeds.
  4. Enter how many minutes or hours you watch a day to see how many days it takes to finish, at every speed.
  5. Only need part of it? Set From video and To video to get the length of a range, like the lessons you haven't watched yet.

How the Calculator Works

The calculator uses the official YouTube Data API to list every video in the playlist, reads each video's duration and adds them together. Deleted and private videos have no length, so they're left out of the total and shown as unavailable.

Watch time at a faster speed:

Watch time = Total playlist length ÷ Playback speed

Days to finish (rounded up to a whole day):

Days = Watch time ÷ Time you watch each day

How Long Does a Playlist Take at 1.5x or 2x?

Here's how long common playlist lengths take at faster playback speeds:

Playlist lengthAt 1.25xAt 1.5xAt 1.75xAt 2x
1h48m40m34m 17s30m
5h4h3h 20m2h 51m 26s2h 30m
10h8h6h 40m5h 42m 51s5h
20h16h13h 20m11h 25m 43s10h
50h40h33h 20m28h 34m 17s25h

Watching a single long video instead? Use the playback speed calculator to see its real watch time at any speed.

How Many Days Will It Take to Finish a Playlist?

Divide the playlist's watch time by how long you watch each day. Here's how many days common playlist lengths take at normal speed:

Playlist length30m a day1h a day2h a day
10h20 days10 days5 days
20h40 days20 days10 days
50h100 days50 days25 days
100h200 days100 days50 days

Watching at 2x halves those numbers. The calculator works out the days for your playlist at every speed, and for any range of videos, so you can plan how long a course or series will take.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out how long a YouTube playlist is?

Copy the playlist's link (it contains "list=" followed by the playlist ID), paste it into the calculator above and press Calculate. The tool adds up the length of every video in the playlist and shows the total in hours, minutes and seconds. YouTube shows how many videos a playlist has, but it doesn't reliably show the total running time.

How long is a playlist at 1.5x or 2x speed?

Divide the total length by the speed. A 10-hour playlist takes 6 hours 40 minutes at 1.5x and 5 hours at 2x. The calculator shows the watch time at 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x and 2x automatically.

Can I calculate the length of only part of a playlist?

Yes. After calculating, change the "From video" and "To video" numbers to get the length of any range, for example the lessons you haven't watched yet in a course playlist.

How many days will it take to finish a playlist?

Divide the playlist's watch time by how long you watch each day, then round up. A 20-hour playlist takes 20 days at 1 hour a day, or 10 days at 2x speed. Enter your daily minutes or hours in the calculator and it shows the days to finish at 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x and 2x, for the whole playlist or any range.

What is the average video length in a playlist?

It's the total length divided by the number of videos that are still available. The calculator shows it under the total, and it updates when you pick a range of videos.

Why doesn't it work with my Watch Later or Mix playlist?

Watch Later, Liked videos and private playlists are only visible to your account, so no outside tool can read them. YouTube Mixes (links with list=RD) are generated on the fly and have no fixed length. Copy the videos into a public or unlisted playlist and calculate that instead.

Why is the video count different from what YouTube shows?

Playlists can contain deleted or private videos. They have no length, so the calculator leaves them out of the total and tells you how many were unavailable. YouTube hides unavailable videos by default, so its count can be lower.

Is the playlist length calculator free?

Yes. It's free to use with no sign-up or account needed.
